Dear Daniel,

I just read "Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen. I'm pretty sure you know what its about. The book is about baby owls that are about to be killed from the construction of a Mother Paula's Pancake House. The main characters in this book are Roy Eberhardt is a kid/pre-teen that came from Montana to Florida who finds it hard living here. Beatrice "The Bear" Leap is a tough soccer player who is the step-brother of Mullet Fingers and protects him from trouble he might get from messing up the constuction. Mullet Fingers is Beatrice's step-brother, he got his name well nickname by capturing a mullet with his bare hands. He also messes up the construction site of Mother Paula's Pancake House. Dana Matherson is what I like to call the big lump of coal since he is a bully thats mean to Roy. In the book he got stripped down and tied to a flag pole which is funny and humiliating. Officer David Delinko, Chuck Muckle, and Curly also are the main characters the 3 work to get the job done and make the place made. My favorite part in the book is when they save the little tiny owls from being killed since they are endangered. My hated part was when they try to destroy the land and run over the owls. Most of the Mullet Fingers does a prank Curly does something for it to stop. Each event literally showed a cause and effect. The book is really great I recommend it plus its made by a great author but be careful some of his novels are nc-17 rated. Thats all so bye!

  1. Dear Lucky,

I like that you chose a book you read in 5th grade. Brings back a lot of memories. I also like that you said that whole book was like a cause and effect. You just forgot to talk about the bully, Dana.

  3. Dear Lucky,
I really liked your Rj. Do you recommend this book? If you do, who would you recommend this book to? How did you come up with the name "big lump of coal" for Dana?

    Sincerely,

  4. Dear Jacob,

Yes, I do recommend this book to anyone who likes books or books from Carl Hiaasen. I came up with the name because Dana is fat hence big lump and the coal came up because in a stereotype of Christmas coal is given to kids that are mean hence his nickname. Hope this helps.
